Fellow Felon Letter #12 — New Years Resolution

Hello Fellow Felons,

Hungry.  That’s how I feel.  I’m not calmed by the humble yet important success we had in 2010.  I’m ignited and burning the last fumes we gathered from the support we got on the road, online, or at home.  Don’t you feel it?  Everywhere I look people are gearing up to accomplish something they’ve never done and in doing so; becoming something they’ve never been.  I’m almost violent in my excitement for this year.  I want to scream down the paved rivers from inside The Great White Whale and kick down the doors of the people who want to “stay in tonight” or “get it done next week”.  I want a community I can believe in.

After being awarded 3 best album of 2010’s (Awaiting The FloodAmericana Rock MixCT Scenic), and some recent love from The New Haven Register, we’re left to humbly accept before we aim to inspire more people.  We don’t take the attention we’ve gotten lately lightly.  So last week, we were in the studio with Jacob Eli Goldman (produced all theAeroplane, 1929 records and Jeff Taylor’s latest record) to record our 3rd album.  We recorded 4 songs in 4 days and it should be mixed by the end of the month.  We don’t have a title for the EP yet but we know the song’s names: “Can’t Be Your Friend”, “On My Way to Hell”, “Sinister Things”, “Love on The Loose”.

Songs For Cowards took one and a half years, Gold Liquid Mischief took 7 months, this one is on course to taking up just 1 month.  We are becoming more efficient!

There is not much to say about how the new album sounds except that it doesn’t have any acoustic guitar in it.  That’s right, we’ve abandoned folk arrangements, but not the folk spirit.

I hope those of you who responded to our holiday email and recieved a gift from us in the mail enjoyed your present.  Stay in touch for more gifts to come.

About Sidewalk Dave

SIDEWALK DAVE Sidewalk Dave was originally a nickname for Dave Van Witt. At 16 years old his mother moved to Kansas to get re-married and Dave decided to stay in Connecticut. Without a car and no money for rent, he began playing on the sidewalks of suburbia. After he graduated high school, he moved up to New Haven where he continued to write songs, play in bands and play on the streets. In 2007 Bruce Kings, a drummer from Nashville, joined forces with Dave and they decided to call the band Sidewalk Dave . Sidewalk Dave signifies strength, courage and a survivor. His instincts came from living on the streets and the one minded determination to survive. The band represents that man as a unit – all for one and one for all. Sidewalk Dave’s first CD “Songs for Cowards” was self released and self screen printed in 2009. “It was one of the 10 best local release of 2009. Now with the release of his second CD, “Gold Liquid Mischief”, his lead single “750ml of Spirit” as been recognized by local media.
